The whole purpose of this Home is the care and development of the permanent girls that are given to us by the DCPO on the recommendation of the CWC. Although we do not have many permanent girls staying at the home, we have to cater to a steady flow of girls in distress being brought to us temporarily by Childline or the Police. Although we receive no grants from the government, we serve as both temporary and permanent shelter for girls for which there is a real and acute need.
According to our records, more than 300 girls have stayed in our CCI in the last five years, most of them temporary. By a conservative estimate, over the years more than 200 boys and girls have stayed, permanently in Sishugram and have left after they attained 18 years of age. Most of them have left the Home after they found meaningful employment.
Some of our girls have excelled in their fields and have brought a good name to the Home. Many have found employment in the hospitality sector while a few have become paramedics. One girl is currently pursuing her B. Tech. in Computer Sc. from Jorhat Engineering College.
