The Sishugram Children’s Village is a registered charitable Trust set up in 1975 (Regn. No. 1075/1975) by the Assam State Flood Relief Committee with many stalwarts including Shri Sarat Chandra Sinha, the then Chief Minister of Assam, Smt Pushpalata Das and Shri Debeswar Sarma as trustees to cater to the growing need of rehabilitation of the orphan or destitute children after the devastating floods of 1974.
A Children’s Home was established by the Trust in 1975 with the objective of taking care of destitute children made destitute by the floods. The buildings of the Home were constructed in the early 1980s on land allotted by the government in Indrachal, North Guwahati. Sishugram is functioning out of those premises till today. The last surviving founding Trustee, Smt Renuka Devi Barkataki, had been looking after Sishugram, with the help of the Indian Red Cross Society, right up till her death in 2017, after which Sishugram went through a difficult phase.
The sole source of revenue of the Trust at present is interest from a rather modest corpus fund and the occasional contribution from individual donors. We gratefully acknowledge the help and support given by IIT Guwahati, Faculty High School and the Indian Red Cross Society over the years.
